Description

Nos. 58-61 on Westgate Street in Bury St Edmunds is a terrace of five houses built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of white brick and feature a hipped slate roof with a wide eaves soffit. At the corner, there is a splayed angle that is corbelled out above. The terrace has four large internal chimney stacks with plain rectangular shafts, three of which have groups of chimney pots.

The exterior consists of two storeys and cellars, with a five-window range facing Westgate Street. All windows are sash style in plain reveals with flat gauged arches. Nos. 58 and 61 have a single vertical glazing bar in their lights, while the other houses feature 12-pane sashes. The doors for Nos. 58, 59, and 60 are six-panelled, while No. 61 has a two-panelled door, all set within semicircular arched brick surrounds. The fanlights above the doors have original radiating glazing bars, except for No. 61, which has a blank fanlight.

No. 34 College Street, which is included in this listing, has a four-window range featuring 16-pane and 12-pane sashes in plain reveals with flat gauged arches, one of which is blank on the upper level. The doorway has a plain semicircular brick surround and a four-panel door with radiating glazing bars in the fanlight. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
