Description
The Robert Peel Guest House is a former police station built in 1878, which included a courtroom, cells, and living accommodation for a sergeant and constable. It is now used as a guest house. The building is two storeys high and constructed in red and white brick, which has been rendered, showcasing a Victorian Tudor style. The roof is covered with fishscale slates. A central projecting porch extends over two storeys. The building features gable-end chimney stacks, each with two square shafts set at a diamond angle. The windows are designed with mullions and transoms, adorned with hood moulds and ornate casement metal frames. A 20th-century door has been added. The original plans for the building, which are undated, can be found among modern materials in the Suffolk Record Office in Ipswich, reference number 3313/19.
