Description
The Market Weston War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1919, made of granite. It is prominently located within the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade II* listed building, just north of the main path that leads from the churchyard gate to the church.
The memorial features a round, polished granite pillar topped with an urn of the same material. The upper part of the pillar is decorated with relief arches, each featuring a fleur-de-lis design, which is also repeated around the top of the pillar and the urn. The entire structure rests on a square granite plinth, which is set on a square concrete base.
On the east-facing side of the pillar, there is an inscription that reads: "IN MEMORY OF/ THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE SERVICE OF/ THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914–1918/" followed by seven names. Additionally, the base of the memorial has the inscription "STILL REMEMBERED 2001."
