Description
The table tomb, located 30 metres south of the Cathedral of St James in Bury St Edmunds, dates from 1771 and is made of Ketton stone. It commemorates members of the Dalton family. The tomb is set on a raised base and features fluted pilasters at the corners and along the sides, which are positioned between raised fielded panels. The moulded table top adds to its architectural detail. All the panels are inscribed, although the inscriptions are not easily readable; the earliest date noted is from 1769, with the next being 1771. To the east of the tomb, there is a stone block on the ground inscribed with 'DALTON The Mouth of ye VAULT 1771'.
