Description
The Old Grammar School is a late 17th to early 18th century timber-framed and plastered house located on the southeast side of The Green. It was originally established as a school by Dr. Thomas Grey, who mentioned in his will that he had erected a school house. The school operated until 1907, and the farm that supported it was sold in 1938. Currently, only half of the original school building remains, now functioning as a private house.
The structure is two stories tall with attics and features a three-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, set in flush cased frames. The ground floor includes three-light windows. A six-panel door with raised and fielded panels is framed by a wood doorcase that has pilasters and a pediment. The roof is tiled and includes three gabled dormers.
All the listed buildings in The Green are part of a group value context.
