Description
Building 60 is a former RAF Barnham atomic bomb store, constructed with a reinforced concrete frame and blockwork walls, topped with a flat concrete roof. The building is rectangular and aligned approximately north-south.
Surrounded by substantial earth bunds, it features a central recessed entrance flanked by two projecting, two-storey plant and switch rooms, which were originally designed to maintain a stable environment. The original steel doors are still in place. The rear elevation includes a central door and crittall windows on the rear and sides. A gantry with a central rolled steel runway joist, which originally supported hoists, is also present.
Internally, Building 60 was originally divided into compartments of 11 by 3 bays, allowing for the storage of up to 66 bombs. It has since been partitioned to create smaller work units.
