Description
Carine Cottage is a house dating from around 1600. It is one-and-a-half storeys tall and features a timber-framed structure that is rendered and topped with 20th-century pantiles. The roof is hipped at the south end and gabled at the north, with a small single-storey lean-to attached. Inside, there is an internal chimney-stack. The exterior has been completely modernised, with 20th-century casement windows and two sloping-headed dormers. The building has three bays in its frame, which appear to be from the same period, and there is no designated chimney-bay. The current chimney-stack intrudes into the two bays of the hall, which showcases exposed beams and joists that are all chamfered. An open fireplace with a timber lintel is surrounded by 18th-century brick. The remaining bay on the south side has ceiling joists from around 1800, which are thin and set on edge, suggesting they may be a replacement unless this part of the house was originally single-storey. It is likely that there was an original chimney-stack on the north gable.
