Description

The railway bridge for the Ipswich and Bury Railway was built in 1846 and designed by architect Frederick Barnes of Ipswich. It is constructed from white brick with stone dressings and features an Italianate style. The bridge has a tripartite elevation with two outer rusticated piers on the east and west sides, complemented by curved rusticated retaining walls along the road to the north and south. A large depressed segmental arch showcases fine internal skewed-arch brickwork. Additional architectural details include stone string-courses, a blocking course to the parapet above the arch, and triangular coping-stones.
