Description

Albert House is a house that was formerly the racehorse trainer's residence for Albert House Stables, located on Moulton Road. It dates from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick with white tuck pointing, featuring a rendered gable wall at the east end and a rendered brick addition at the west end. It has end-gabled slate roofed dormers and brick ridge-end stacks.

The original plan was a double-depth, three-unit block, with a fourth unit added in the early 19th century as a wing extending to the rear. There is also a single-storey, lean-to addition against the east gable-end wall. The house stands two storeys and an attic high. The front of the mid-18th-century block is symmetrical, with a central doorway that has early 19th-century reeded architraves, a flat canopy on brackets, a six-panel door with glazed upper panels, and a rectangular fanlight. On either side of the doorway are sash windows with glazing bars (3 x 4 panes). The first floor features three similar sashes, all set in openings with flat-arched, gauged brick heads. The roof has two dormers with sashes that have glazing bars (3 x 3 panes).

To the left, the front of the early 19th-century rendered extension has a doorway on the ground floor to the right with a 20th-century glazed door and overlight, and to the left, a sash with glazing bars. On the first floor, there is a single sash with glazing bars (3 x 4 panes). At the rear of the house, there are sashes with glazing bars on both floors. The interior has not been inspected.
