Description
Ashley House, formerly a residence and now an office, dates from the mid 18th century, with alterations and an extension added in the early 19th century. The building features four windows, is two storeys tall with attics, and has stuccoed walls. It has a parapet with a broad moulded cornice, a string course at the first floor, and flat full-height pilasters with parapet gables. The roof is plaintiled, with lead flat-headed dormers that contain sash windows. The sash windows are recessed within architraves. The entrance door has four panels and an oblong fanlight with interlaced glazing bars, flanked by broad pilasters and topped with a simple heavy cornice. The house has been extended to the right with early 19th-century stucco, and a red brick stable wing has been added to the rear. Inside, there is a notable mid 18th-century staircase featuring a moulded handrail and heavy turned balusters.
