Description
The Mill House is a Grade II listed building located on Newmarket Road in Barton Mills. Originally built in 1668, it was restored in the mid-20th century. The house has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell plan and an original service wing at the rear. It is constructed with a timber frame and plaster, with weather-boarding at the gables. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have a moulded 18th-century wooden eaves fascia.
The building includes hipped casement dormers and has prominent central and rear chimneys made of orange brick, which feature sunk arcading between the flues and a moulded brick cornice at the base. The front chimney has a sunk rendered date panel that is now blank, while the rear chimney displays a similar panel with raised numerals indicating "1668." The windows are modern oak three-light casements with leaded lights. Additionally, there is a modern gabled entrance porch with a plaintiled roof and an oak-panelled door.
