Description
Nos. 11-15 on The Street in Cavenham are three cottages that were originally built in the late 16th century as one house. They were altered in the mid-18th century and converted into cottages in the 19th century. The buildings are two storeys high and originally had a three-cell plan. They feature timber framing with plastered panels and herringbone pargetting. The right-hand end has an 18th-century parapet gable made of red brick. The cottages have 19th-century small-pane casements, some of which are hinged while others slide horizontally, along with 19th-century boarded entrance doors. At the rear, there is a small 18th-century gabled wing that retains some original internal joinery. Inside No. 15, some exposed 16th-century timber framing can be seen, and the hall contains an infilled wide open fireplace, which is now located within No. 11. The roof features clasped purlins from the 16th century, with some parts wind-braced.
