Description

The Old Plough is a house dating from the 16th century, with later alterations. It features a rendered and whitewashed timber frame, with weatherboarded gable ends and a thatched roof topped by a central brick ridge stack. The building has a two-unit lobby-entry plan that extends to the left and stands two storeys high, presenting a two-window range of 2-light casements above a 3-light window. A large central gabled porch leads to the front door. To the left end, there is a single-storey and attic extension, along with another single-storey extension, both featuring additional casements and a door. The right end has a French door with a 3-light casement window above it, and there are further casements and a door at the rear.

Inside, the building has close-studded timber framing with tension braces on the first floor and jowled posts. The room to the right showcases high-quality framing, including roll-moulded chamfers on the bridging beam, joists, and middle rail at the gable end, as well as a bridging beam above an open fireplace. This fireplace has a plain bressumer and is back-to-back with another open fireplace in the left room, where the hood above is still intact. The first floor features bridging beams, but the remainder of the roof was replaced in the 20th century.
