Description

Nos. 3 and 5 on The Street are a pair of cottages that were formerly a house, dating from the 15th or early 16th century, with 16th century and later alterations. The structure is a three-cell house, possibly originally an open-hall, featuring a cross-wing at the parlour end.

No. 3 is one-and-a-half storeys with attics and serves as the hall range. It is timber-framed and encased in painted brick, topped with a cedar shingled roof that includes a gabled casement dormer and a large 17th century axial chimney made of red brick. The windows are small-pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, and there is a boarded entrance door with a glazed panel. Inside, there are moulded 16th century first floor beams, which may have been added to an open hall.

No. 5 is the wing that has two storeys. It is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a jettied first floor supported by four brackets. This part also has small-pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, along with a 20th century flat-roofed one-storey entrance porch on the side.
