Description
Thurston End Hall is a fine early 16th century timber-framed manor house built around 1500 and enlarged around 1607, as indicated by a later porch carved with the date 1607. The house underwent extensive and careful restoration in the 20th century. It features exposed timber-framing and brick nogging, and consists of two storeys and attics, which are lit by windows in the gables. At the north end, there is a cross wing with double jetties on both the east and west gable ends. A three-storey entrance porch projects at the front, showcasing a carved lintel and twisted columns. Above the porch, there is a room and a jettied, gabled attic storey. The jettied storeys are supported by moulded bressumers with brackets and drop finials. The windows are mullioned and transomed casements with lattice leaded lights, many featuring moulded sills. On the west front, two massive red brick chimney breasts project, one of which has four grouped round shafts adorned with carved ornamentation. The roof is tiled.
