Description

This is a row of cottages dating back to the 18th century, with an extension added in the 19th century. Originally listed separately, then as a range of cottages 80 yards west of Hall Farmhouse, the group now comprises numbers 27, 29, 31 and 33. The cottages are timber-framed and rendered, although number 33 has later 19th-century brick walls which have been painted. They have thatched roofs with hipped, single-story extensions at either end, and casement dormers with thatched eyebrow and gabled forms. Red brick axial chimneys are present. The windows are mainly small-pane casements from the 19th century, but there is a surviving three-light window from the 18th century with diamond-leaded panes, along with others in a similar style dating from the 20th century. The entrance doors are boarded, with some battened, and there is an open pantiled gabled porch with an elliptical arched opening in painted brick at number 33.
