Description
Bardwell Voluntary Controlled School is a primary school built in 1855. It is a single-storey building constructed from black knapped random flint, topped with a slate roof featuring corbels and copings at the gables. The school has rusticated quoins and dressings made of cement stucco. It features four three-light mullion-and-transom windows designed in a heavy Tudor style. A projecting enclosed gabled porch is present, which has a damaged shield inscribed 'Christo in Parvulis' on the gable end, topped with a small bell-cote and cross. There are two small windows and a door on each side of the porch, one designated for boys and the other for girls, although one door is now blocked. The school was funded by a bequest from Mrs. Anna Maria Dunlap in 1854, and her contribution is commemorated by a plaque on the schoolroom wall.
