Description
This is a mid-17th century barn with an attached early 18th-century cartshed, located 50 meters north of Grange Farmhouse. The barn has six bays, with the western bay previously used as a stable that included a hayloft above. An original porch is situated at the south side of the central bay. The structure is timber-framed and primarily features original tarred plaster cladding, with an asbestos-sheeted roof that was once thatched.
The barn showcases impressive framing for its period, including heavy primary-braced studding with a middle rail. There is evidence of a diamond-mullioned window at the west gable. The roof is supported by butt purlins. The four-bay cartshed features arch-braced tie-beams, a clasped purlin roof, and primary braced studding. Originally, all four walls of the cartshed were studded, but the north wall's studding was removed in the 19th century when the building was converted from a stable to a cartshed. The cartshed has weatherboarding and a door in its gable, positioned against the end of the earlier barn, indicating that the cartshed was likely relocated from another site.
