Description
This barn, located 50 meters north of Fairstead Farmhouse, has origins dating back to the 16th century but was largely rebuilt in the mid to late 17th century. It features a timber frame with sections of weatherboarding, corrugated iron, and tarred plasterwork, and the roof is clad in corrugated iron. The barn has five bays and includes a central cart entrance with a gabled porch on the north side. The frame is largely intact, featuring a middle rail, and half of the main posts have shaped jowled heads, with no evidence of original tie beam braces. The current tie beam braces have been nailed in place. The roof structure includes three rows of butt purlins, with collars positioned at the level of the middle row, and there is no wind bracing present.
