Description
This is a barn located about 40 meters northeast of Hall Farm House, dating from the mid-17th century and originally built for the Redgrave Park Estate. It has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The barn features a timber frame on a brick base and is weatherboarded, topped with a steeply pitched corrugated asbestos roof. It consists of eight bays, with a small one-bay extension at the end furthest from the house. There are gabled midstreys that project from the second and sixth bays, connected by a red brick lean-to addition. The barn previously had large cart doorways opposite the midstreys, and the rear has a taller brick base.
Inside, the barn has altered close studding with mid-rails and reverse curved arched braces, as well as jowled posts with some original arched braces supporting the tie beams. The roof structure includes lower butt purlins, upper purlins clasped by collars and halved principals, and angled queen struts extending from the tie beams to the principals. The added bay features through tension bracing and double staggered butt purlins. The 20th-century additions are not considered of special interest.
