Description
Fox Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from around 1580 to 1620. It has two storeys and a three-cell plan, constructed with timber framing and plaster. The roof is covered with glazed pantiles and features an axial chimney, which was rebuilt in 19th-century red brick. At the left end of the building, there are a pair of original console brackets beneath the gable. The windows are 20th-century small-pane casements, and there is a 20th-century boarded entrance door located in a rear extension.
This farmhouse is a typical example of a three-cell house, showing evidence of a pair of service rooms with twin doorways, although all partitioning in this area has now been removed. The first-floor joists are unchamfered, and the roof has close-studding and clasped purlins. Inside, there are back-to-back open fireplaces in the hall and parlour, along with a small original arched fireplace in one chamber. A blocked diamond-mullioned window can be found in the rear wall, with evidence of additional windows throughout the building.
