Description

Thorpe Hall is a manor farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th or early 17th century, featuring significant alterations and expansions from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The building has a long front range with a short central gabled wing at the rear, which is flanked by later additions that are roofed parallel to the front range. The structure is primarily timber framed, though it is mostly faced in 19th-century red brick, with exposed studding visible in the gable end at the rear. One of the rear additions is constructed in rat-trap bond. The roof is covered with plain tiles at the front, while the rest is glazed black pantiles.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a five-bay facade, with the central bay slightly projecting forward and lacking an upper window. The early 19th-century casement windows feature three ogee-headed lights and no glazing bars, with rendered wedge lintels above. To the left of the center is a late 19th-century one-storey canted bay with a flat parapet and brick copings, which includes mid-20th-century French windows and single-paned side windows, all under wedge lintels with raised keys. To the right of the center is a one-storey brick porch with a flat parapet similar to the bay, featuring a nine-panel door with a bolection-moulded architrave. Inside, there is an internal stack with a plain 19th-century shaft, and a splayed ground floor bay on the right gable end. The interior of the rear wing shows some studding and plain ceiling joists, while most of the timbers are concealed. An early 19th-century straight staircase features stick balusters and a wreathed handrail.
