Description
The barn located to the south-east of Wattisfield Hall dates from the early 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, featuring clay pantiles on the roof. The gable ends were rebuilt in 20th-century brick, and there is a later full-height porch on the north side. Inside, the barn showcases good close-studding, a middle rail, and arched braces that are halved against the outer surface of the studs. Some sections have undergone later repairs. The barn consists of 8 bays, with a partition wall that separates the 2 western bays. The main posts have long jowls, and the trusses feature straight tie-beams with long, slightly arched braces still in place. The trusses near the entry have 2 braces on each side. The roof spans 16 bays of irregular length, supported by 3 rows of unstepped butt purlins, with the middle 8 bays featuring plank-like shallow arched windbraces and cambered collars. This building was previously listed with the house.
