Description

The Old Vicarage is a house that was formerly the vicarage. The main range dates from the 16th century, and in the early 17th century, the parlour end was extended to the northeast and re-roofed to create a cross-wing facing the road. The building is timber framed and plastered, with plaintiled roofs, except for the southwest slope of the main range, which is pantiled. It has two storeys and an attic.

The cross-wing features two windows on the ground floor, which are tripartite sashes with glazing bars. There is a central doorway with a six-panel raised and fielded door, a rectangular fanlight, and a moulded architrave with a frieze and dentil cornice. The right gable end has a first-floor canted bay window supported by wooden brackets. At the rear of this range, there is a stack with two 19th-century shafts set diamondwise.

The main range at the rear has various old casement windows and an internal stack. The hall ceiling is characterized by closely spaced chamfered joists. There is one 16th-century first-floor window with roll-moulded mullions in what was the former outside wall. An early 19th-century well stair with stick balusters and carved tread-ends is located in a separate wing to the northeast of the main range. Additionally, there is an early 19th-century ground floor fireplace with a reeded surround and another fireplace with an eared surround on the first floor.
