Description
The Old White Horse is a former public house, likely originally a farmhouse, dating from the 16th to 17th century and constructed in three phases. It features a timber frame with plaster and a pantiled roof, standing two storeys tall in a three-cell layout. The windows are primarily 19th century casements, and there are two doorways, each with a 19th century four-panelled door. Inside, there is an internal stack with a moulded brick base, while the upper part of the shaft has been rebuilt in a plain style. A small 19th century stack is located against the right gable end. The frame consists of five bays, with small gaps at the two joins. The two bays on the left are from the mid-16th century, showcasing fine close studding on the upper floor and a large diamond-mullioned window in the gable. The roof features a queen-post design with a cambered tie beam supporting an open truss. The central two bays are later additions, characterized by a ground floor ceiling with chamfered joists and good framing on the first floor. The service end to the right was likely added in the early 17th century.
