Description
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a Grade I listed building located on Church Lane in Brockdish. The north wall of the nave likely dates from the 11th century and features a possible Saxon window. The north wall of the chancel is from the 12th century and includes Norman windows. The south aisle, built in the 14th century, has a Decorated arcade with piers that are diagonal quatrefoil in plan. There is an early to mid-13th century piscina in the south aisle with a cinquefoiled arch. The church also contains Victorian windows and a Victorian south porch characterized by flushwork panelling in the Perpendicular style. The large west tower, constructed in 1864, includes a stair turret. The nave roof from the 15th century features arched braces and tie-beams, while the aisle roof from the same period also has arched braces. There is a 15th-century screen base that has been rebuilt above. A Perpendicular tomb chest made of Purbeck marble is present, along with fragments of old stained glass in the east window of the south aisle. The church was restored by F Marrable between 1864 and 1865.
