Description
The Grange is a fine brick house dated 1676, located on Brockdish Grove Road. It features a steep tiled roof with pedimented Dutch end gables and is arranged over two storeys and an attic. The façade has a layout of one, three, and one bays, with the centre and end bays having Dutch gables that are slightly advanced. There are brick string courses at the floor levels, and the window openings are segmental headed with keyblocks, featuring replacement mullion/transom casements with leaded panes.
On the first floor, there is a central brick pilastered window adorned with a moulded brick segmental pediment and a moulded brick panel inscribed with "SSM 1676". Below this is a heavy moulded doorcase that includes a panelled door and a portico porch supported by bulbous Ionic columns, which hold up an entablature with a pulvinated frieze. To the left and right of the centre, there are two large brick chimney stacks that have moulded cornices and bases, along with round-headed recessed panel sides. At the rear, there is a gabled staircase wing that is off centre, which is said to contain the original staircase.
