Description
Nos. 85 and 86 Mellis Green are a pair of dwellings dating from 1841, as indicated by a cast iron plaque on the stack. The buildings are constructed of clay lump or timber frame on a brick base and are plastered, featuring a black glazed pantiled roof in the cottage orne style. They have a two-cell lobby entry plan and are two storeys high with a plinth. The central entrance has a vertically panelled architraved door topped with a hoodboard. The windows are three-light casements, with the central lights opening and each light featuring a depressed arched head, along with hoodboards on the ground floor and hoodmoulds on the first floor. A central axial ridge stack, which has the date plaque on its base, is topped with two diagonally set shafts. Both gable ends have weatherboarded lean-to outshuts, behind which is a taller rendered lean-to that has an entrance on the right. On the left, a red pantiled lean-to connects to another building that was constructed as a pair but is not listed. At the rear, there is an addition with a red pantiled roof. The interior has not been inspected.
