Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory located on Church Road in Felsham. It dates from the early 19th century, with an earlier core that may date back to the 17th century. The building is timber-framed, with parts clad in 19th-century gault mathematical tiles and other sections plastered. It features a band at the first floor level on the entrance front and a dentilled eaves cornice. The roofs are plaintiled, with the front range having a hipped design. There are two early 19th-century chimneys, each topped with a group of four circular shafts made of gault terracotta tiles, styled in the 17th-century manner. The structure has two storeys and three windows, which are small-paned 19th-century sashes; the ground floor windows include sidelights.

In the early 19th century, two semi-circular flat-roofed bays were added to either gable of the entrance front, each featuring three sashes on both storeys. The entrance is highlighted by a pair of early 19th-century half-glazed panelled doors, set beneath a Roman Doric portico porch with columns and a flat entablature. The slightly lower rear service wing likely includes the 17th-century hall range, while the attached crosswing was converted to form the entrance front in the 19th century. The use of mathematical tiles is a rare feature in Suffolk. The interior has not been examined.
