Description
Gate Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, likely from the 16th century, with early 17th-century alterations. It has one storey and attics, with a short two-storey crosswing facing the road, which is probably a 17th-century addition. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring large moulded panels in an 18th-century style, which were reproduced around 1980. The roofs are covered with plain tiles, and there are 20th-century raking casement dormers.
The farmhouse has a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick, which has recessed corners on the oblong shaft. Inside the crosswing, there is an internal gable chimney with a similar shaft. The windows include 20th-century casements and some restored 16th and 17th-century mullioned windows. On the south side, there is a short wing added in the early 17th century, which jetties at the first floor and shows exposed joists and knees. Above this wing is an oriel window with a coved cill, possibly restored in the 20th century. The oversailing gable tiebeam features turned drop finials. The entrance door, which is from the 20th century, has an arched head. This wing seems to have originally been at the back of the house, with the main entrance front located on the north side. The interior has not been examined.
