Description
The Old House is a farmhouse that has been used as two cottages. It consists of two sections of different heights, with the left section dating from the late medieval period or the 16th century, and a parlour addition from around 1600 on the right. The building is timber framed, mostly plastered, and has a pantiled roof. It is two storeys tall, with an attic in the right-hand section. The house features various old casement windows, including one in the right gable with diamond-leaded panes, and a boarded entrance door. There is a gable stack, rebuilt in white brick, at the junction of the two sections.
The main part of the house remains intact, although the frame is covered. Inside, there are exposed joists, original newel stairs with two flights, and floorboards. The earlier section has been shortened; a floor was added in the early 17th century, and the range was raised by about 0.8 meters and re-roofed in the 18th century.
