Description

Barham Manor is a house that was originally a manor house, built around 1600, with some alterations made in the early 20th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell lobby-entrance plan. The exterior is constructed of red brick in an irregular English bond, which may have been originally plastered. The building has crow-stepped parapet gables and plaintiled roofs, with original red brick chimneys. There is an axial stack between the hall and parlour that has a square base and four octagonal flues with star tops. A similar two-flue stack is located at the left-hand gable, and another similar stack is on the crow-stepped gable of the original rear wing behind the parlour.

The house features 20th-century casement dormers with gabled roofs. Most of the windows are original, made of plastered brick that simulates limestone, with hollow-chamfered mullions. The ground floor has ten-light windows, while the first floor has eight-light windows, both with 20th-century leaded casements. There is a 20th-century single-storey gabled entrance porch made of red brick, which includes a boarded and battened door. Above the first floor, there is a carved limestone coat of arms set within a moulded border.

Inside, the parlour has ceiling joists that are ovolo-moulded, while other exposed framing is plain. The house retains several original features, including small open fireplaces with elliptical heads. The early 20th-century alterations included the addition of a wing to the rear left of the house.
