WICKHAM SKEITH TM 06 NE 2/142 Abbey Farmhouse -

-- II Former farmhouse, now 3 dwellings. A C16 or earlier hall range with later C16 in-line parlour addition to east. C17 dairy wing to north west. Timber framed and roughcast rendered, roof of concrete pantiles. 2 storeys. Parlour block is jettied to north on original brackets. C20 casement windows, mostly of standard metal-framed type. C20 doors. At junction of hall and parlour, within the hall range, is a stack with heavy axial shaft. The lower part of the shaft is original and contains oblong panels to north and south, that to the north the larger; each panel has a moulded border, originally enriched with an inner surround of dentils. Interior. 2-bay parlour: Victorianised, the main components of the frame exposed only on the upper floor; central tie beam has mortices for large braces. Adjacent 2 bays of hall range have some framing exposed on upper floor; some components are sooted. Adjacent to stack, in south wall, is a window of c.1600 with ovolo mullions. Part of an arched stuccoed fireplace is visible in a cupboard, the remainder infilled by a C19 fireplace. Newel stair. Remainder of interior and all roofspace not examined.
