Description
South View is a house that was formerly a shop, built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and has a slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The building features an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft and a corbelled head.
The long frontage displays five small-paned sash windows on the upper floor, which are irregularly spaced and have cased frames with slight reveals. On the ground floor, there are two larger sash windows to the left, also with segmental arches to their frames and surrounds. The centre of the ground floor has a pair of matching shop windows, each divided by glazing bars into three lights, with a fanlight above each middle light. These windows are topped with flat pediments supported by solid console-type brackets and plain enclosing pilasters.
Between the shop windows is a four-panelled shop door with raised fielded panels, a heavy plain surround, and a large flat pediment with console brackets. To the right, there is a 20th-century replacement window in a cross form with additional glazing bars. A plain entrance door is located on the left side of the building. The property is included for its group value.
