Description

The Dages is a house located on the north side of The Street in Walsham le Willows, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber-framed structure that is roughcast-rendered and topped with clay pantiles. The building stands two storeys high, with a jettied front along The Street, while the extension at the west end does not have a jetty. There are two internal chimney-stacks, one of which is partially rendered, and both have plain red brick shafts. The building has a wide eaves overhang and old casement windows at the front, which have horizontal glazing bars and pintle hinges set in rusticated roughcast surrounds. The entrance doorway is similarly framed in rustication and features a door with four sunk panels and heavily moulded edges.

At the rear, there is a notable 16th-century wing that rises above the main roofline, complete with an end chimney-stack made of Tudor brick, which has two moulded bases where the shafts are missing. The interior boasts close-studding, a main ground floor beam with ovolo-moulding and unusual thistle stops, and an open fireplace with a moulded brick surround. The front range has an addition with 20th-century standard windows and a plank door with a glazed panel, which is included in the listing for group value.
