Description

HENLEY MAIN ROAD TM 15 SE 4/120 Church Farmhouse - - II Farmhouse, C15 with alterations of c.1600 and later. A 3-cell open-hall house. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and plastered. Thatched roof with axial chimney of red brick. Mainly mid-C20 casements with leaded lights. C20 gabled thatched entrance porch with boarded door. In the hall is a complete central open truss, with cambered tie beam. The arch-braces spring from wall shafts. A large cross-quadrate crown-post has 4-way arch-braces. Heavy smoke-blackening. Good close-studwork throughout. A pair of cross-passage doorways have 4-centred arched heads. The parlour chamber has a large complete diamond-mullioned window, but the formerly hipped roof at this end was rebuilt in C17. An upper floor with chamfered joists was inserted into the hall c1600 and a fireplace with wide cambered lintel built against the parlour partition. A second flue was added for the parlour in C18. A rear wing was added to the service end in C18, and another behind the parlour end in mid C20.
