Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a hall range with a parlour crosswing; the original entrance was likely a lobby situated between these two sections. It is constructed of timber framing and plaster, topped with plaintiled roofs, while the cross-wing roof is hipped. An original axial chimney made of red brick displays a distinctive saw-tooth pattern on its square plinth. The farmhouse includes various 19th and 20th-century casement windows. A 20th-century rear entrance porch has a panelled door, and the original lobby entrance is now occupied by a lean-to staircase wing from the 19th century. Some heavy first-floor structural members are exposed, revealing close-studwork. The butt-purlin roof with principal rafters was repaired or rebuilt in the 18th century. Additionally, there is a single bay extension to the right that was added in the 18th century, along with a one-storey dairy wing located behind it.
