Description

The barn, located 100 meters northeast of Hemingstone Hall, dates from the late 18th century. It features seven bays, with an additional bay for stabling at both ends. The west end includes a loft above the stable that opens into the barn. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, resting on a high plinth of red brick. The roof, originally thatched, is now covered with flipped pantiles. There is an original hipped porch at the center of the north wall, with slightly later flanking outshuts. The barn primarily uses oak framing, much of which is reused, and includes primary-braced studwork. The entrance bay has knee-braced tie-beams, while the other bays are designed with knee-braced high collars, omitting tie-beams. The barn features sets of boarded barn and stable doors.
