Description
Willow Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the mid 17th century. The house is timber-framed and now plastered, with a plaintiled roof featuring prominent pierced and cusped bargeboards from the 19th century. A mid 17th century chimney constructed of red brick is a notable feature, retaining its unaltered sawtooth shaft and oversailing cap. The house is two storeys high. Most of the windows are 19th century, small-pane windows, mainly of three lights, with horizontally sliding centre lights. Several original mullioned windows from the 16th and 17th centuries have been uncovered and re-glazed. The entrance door is from the early 19th century and features six fielded panels. Inside, arch windbraced close-studwork and unchamfered floor joists remain visible. Two fireplaces contain good 17th century arched heads with ovolo-mouldings, one also having sunk spandrels. A short two-storey wing on the south side may be an original staircase tower and features moulded mullions, likely reused from the mid 16th century. The original section of the house has a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. A 17th century wing on the north side is of lesser quality construction, and has a two-tier butt-purlin roof.
