Description
Hall Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century. A 16th-century wing remains at the rear right of the building. It features a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan, with both end cells designed as cross-wings. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and is constructed from timber framing with plaster. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have axial chimneys made of red brick. There is a 17th-century gabled dormer that includes a late 18th-century casement window. The late 18th-century windows are either two or three lights, with transoms on the ground floor, and wrought iron casements. The attic windows are fitted with 18th-century hinged boarded shutters that have trompe d'oeil painted lace curtains.
The central entrance doorway, dating from the late 18th century, features a two-panelled door, where the upper panel is glazed with small panes and the lower panel has fielded sub-panels arranged in a saltire pattern. Above the door is an enriched broken pediment that contains an elliptical-headed fanlight with curved bars, similar to the doorway at the Red House on Church Lane. Inside, the former cross-passage has a 17th-century wainscotted screen. While little of the framing is visible in the main range, the 16th-century rear wing showcases heavy framing with arch-braced studwork. The roofs are constructed with wind-braced clasped purlins and butt purlins.
