Description

A house, likely dating from the 16th century, is situated on Combs Park Road. It was once subdivided into two cottages. The building is two storeys high and originally had a three-cell plan, with a later extension to the north, probably in the 17th or 18th century. The exterior is timber-framed and plastered. The roof is thatched, with a hip at the south end. Notably, there is a red brick chimney, likely from the 16th or early 17th century, along with chimneys from the 19th century and 20th century. Windows are casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, and there are various boarded entrance doors. Much of the timber framing is concealed, but alterations were underway at the time of the building’s survey, revealing evidence of unglazed windows in some studwork. The attached cottages to the north, numbered 1 and 2 Ropers Row, are not considered to have group value.
