Description
The Croft is a house likely dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, situated in Stowupland, near Thorney Green. It originally comprised three rooms arranged in a lobby-entrance plan. The house has a timber-frame construction with plaster infill. The roof is covered in concrete plain tiles and incorporates three 20th-century dormers, each with small-paned casement windows. A prominent late 16th/early 17th-century chimney is built of pink brick and features a sawtooth shaft. A later 19th-century internal chimney is constructed of red brick, located on the right-hand side. The first storey has early 19th-century small-paned sash windows, while the ground floor features later sashes with larger panes of glass. A 19th-century gabled porch has been added at the original lobby entrance, and contains a 6-panelled door with glazed upper panels. A 19th-century two-storey extension, one window wide, is situated to the right. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
