Description
Nos. 44 and 46 on Thorney Green Road are two houses that were originally built as a single three-cell house in the early 17th century, with the possibility of an earlier core. The buildings are one storey high with attics. The original section is timber-framed and plastered, and it has a concrete tiled roof that was formerly thatched. There are two 19th-century raking dormers featuring small-pane casements. The house has an axial chimney with a rebuilt shaft made of 19th-century gault brick, and there is another 19th-century chimney at the left-hand gable. The windows are 19th-century casements, and there is a rear entrance door. Inside, to the right is the hall, which has close-studding and slightly chamfered floor joists laid flat. The bridging beam has an unusual scalloped pattern along the chamfer and appears to be inserted into a slightly earlier structure.
