Description

Oak Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to early 17th century. It remains largely unmodernised and mostly unaltered since the 19th century. The building consists of three main sections: a short central range with a cross-wing to the right, a larger recessed range to the right of the cross-wing, and a service cross-wing to the left. The structure is timber framed and plastered, featuring remnants of old chevron-pargetted panelled plasterwork. The roof is plaintiled, except for the service wing, which is covered in corrugated iron. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with the central cross-wing displaying an overhanging gable. Most windows are 19th-century sashes with glazing bars, while the service wing has various casements. The right section includes two doorways with 6-panel and plank doors, as well as one flat-roofed dormer. There are two heavy stacks, one internal and one at the right gable end, each with moulded bases for three in-line octagonal shafts, the upper parts of which were reconstructed in the 19th century. Inside, there is some plain studding visible in one upper room, but most timbers are concealed. The roof of the main cross-wing features clasped and butt purlins, while the service wing, likely the oldest part, has a queen-post roof that is mostly hidden.
