Description

The Debenham War Memorial is a war memorial erected in 1920, following the First World War, by architect H Smith and builder H Taylor. An additional inscription was added after the Second World War.

The memorial is made from carved York stone and is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary Magdalene, just southeast of the church. It features a rectangular cenotaph or stone of remembrance that stands over 1 meter high. The east face has incised lettering that reads: "TO THE MEN OF DEBENHAM GREAT WAR 1914 – 18 (33 NAMES) WE WILL REMEMBER THEM." The north face includes another inscription in incised lettering: "ALSO OF THOSE OF THIS PARISH SECOND GREAT WAR 1939 – 45 (SIX NAMES)."
