Description
This is a barn located 20 meters west of St. Briavels, dating from the 16th century with alterations made around 1800. The barn has five bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding. It features a glazed pantiled roof, which was originally thatched. At the center of the north side, there is a gabled porch with boarded barn doors, and a pair of boarded doors is located on the opposite wall. The side walls exhibit heavy arch windbraced studding from the 16th century, with the three central bays being widely spaced; the end bays were added around 1800. The roof, which has clasped purlins, dates to around 1800. Several of the storey posts and at least two tie beams are reused from an earlier barn from the early 14th or 13th century. Evidence from the jointing suggests that this earlier building originally had upper passing braces above the tie beam braces and was also aisled. Additionally, there are several reused medieval rafters. St. Briavels, previously known as Martin's Farmhouse, is not included in this listing.
