Description
The Old Curacy is a house that was once the rectory, dating from the 16th century with 19th-century alterations and additions. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior topped with a thatched roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form that originally included a cross-entry.
There are three early 19th-century casement windows on the front, each with trefoil-cusped heads and lower sections that have sunk spandrels, along with small hoodmoulds. Additionally, there are four single-light windows on the first floor, each with two-centred arches and hoodmoulds. The lobby entrance includes a four-centred arched doorway with sunk spandrels, leading to a 19th-century six-panel raised and fielded door with an arched head and square-leaded glazing in the central panels. A 20th-century open gabled porch has been added.
Inside, there is an internal stack with a 16th to 17th-century shaft, and an external stack is positioned against the left gable end, set forward of the ridge. The hall features a moulded axial bridging beam with a barred stop-chamfer and chamfered joists, and the rear wall contains a blocked cross-entry doorway with a flat head. In the parlour, both the bridging beam and joists are moulded. In the 19th century, the stack was tunnelled through, and substantial additions were made to the rear, which includes a well stair with stick balusters and carved tread-ends. The first floor and roof were not examined.
