Description
Pippins is a house dating from the early to mid 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and later. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure topped with a thatched roof, which includes 19th-century eyebrow casement dormers and an axial chimney made of red brick. The building has one storey and attics, following a three-cell cross-entry plan. There are various 19th and 20th-century casements, along with a 20th-century lean-to thatched entrance porch that has a half-glazed stable-type door. Inside, there are twin service doorways in the hall with four-centred arched heads, one of which has been restored. The service rooms were combined in the late 16th or 17th century, and the hall features deeply chamfered ceiling joists. A similar doorway leads to the parlour. The original hall includes a good fireplace with a deep cambered lintel, unmoulded floor joists, and notable 16th-century studwork. To the left, there is a single-cell extension from the 17th or 18th century, which has a lower roofline.
