Description

Limekiln Cottage is a house dating to the late 16th century, situated on Needham Road in Coddenham. Originally a two-cell lobby-entrance plan, a third cell existed at the right-hand end but was rebuilt in the 18th or early 19th century, forming a separate dwelling named Limekilns, which is not included in the listing. The house is timber-framed and plastered, with 20th-century cable-pattern pargetting applied in panels to the exterior. It has a pantiled roof and an axial brick chimney dating to the 16th or 17th century, which was recapped in the 19th century. The windows are small-pane casements, and there's a boarded door at the lobby entrance. A 16th-century diamond-mullioned window is exposed and glazed over the entrance. It is believed that good 16th-century timber framing is visible inside.
