Description
Limekiln Farmhouse is a pair of cottages that were originally built as one farmhouse in the late 16th century or early 17th century, constructed in two stages. The building features a three-cell plan, with one cell designed in a cross-wing form. It stands two storeys tall and is made of timber framing with plaster. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have an axial chimney made of red brick, which was rebuilt in the 20th century. The windows are mainly 20th-century small-pane casements, while there are two 19th-century ground-storey splayed bays with small-pane sash windows. The entrance doors are boarded. Inside, the hall reveals an exposed first-floor structure dating from around 1600, although most of the framing is hidden except for the main components. The cross-wing is structurally separate and may have been added later. Additionally, the service cell to the left was extended by one bay in the 18th century.
